The present work deals with socio-spatial issues and how they are intrinsically linked to the organization of urban space, the intention is to look especially at the Northern region of Brazil and understand how socio-spatial segregation presents itself and is repeated in the different cities of the country .
Initially, this brief essay presents the theoretical questions that permeate socio-spatial relations, with special attention to economic issues and how they shape the urban layout through the privilege of classes. Then, still on a theoretical basis on the subject, examples are presented of how the market dynamics influences the periphery of human settlements in urbanized areas.
The third part demonstrates the specificities of the Amazon region of Brazil, pointing out environmental issues as one of the problems, in relation to housing settlements (whether they are promoted by the government or self-produced and without licensing).
In the last segment, this paper presents the city of Rio Branco, located in the State of Acre, it demonstrates how the city was formed (from an urban point of view), advancing on the issues of housing developments produced within the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program and how they are inserted in the urban territory.
