The advanced industrial strength of Soviet Union made the state one of the most influential powers worldwide during its existence, and the two world wars encouraged the prioritisation of industrial development. The Transcaucasian countries was part of the Soviet Union since the early 20th century until its collapse in 1991. The superior geographic location and abundant natural resources made these countries ideally for becoming state industrial factories for the Soviet Union, thus industrial cities were built in this region rapidly to satisfy such needs. However, many of these once prosperous industrial cities are gradually faded in the history and are struggling with their regeneration or redevelopment directions in the contemporary era. This research, employs case studies as the main research method, investigating the industrial cities which erected and populated in short time, including Chiatura of Georgia, Oil Rocks of Azerbaijan, and Metsamor of Armenia. The cities are examined and compared from macro to micro scales in order to reveal the underlying principles for their urban development reasons, trends, and impacts on people’s social life. This research desires to contribute to literature of industrial cities of Soviet Union from a spatial perspective, and also gives implications for the urban development of industrial cities in the post-Soviet Union era, especially for those which had industrial production as their main driving force in its development.
